Use a WDC in Tableau Server

Important: Tableau Web Data Connector 2.0 (this version) is being deprecated at Tableau 2023.1 and eventually retired. We will still support WDC 2.0 until its last compatible version of Tableau (Tableau 2022.4) goes End of Life and is no longer supported.

For information about Tableau Web Data Connector 3.0, see the WDC 3.0 documentation.

You can use your web data connector (WDC) on Tableau Server as you would any other data source. You can publish the web data connector as a data source, or you can publish a workbook that embeds your connector as the data source.

When you use a web data connector, Tableau creates an extract of the data. You can refresh the extract in Tableau Desktop. However, to be able to refresh the extract on Tableau Server, there are a couple of other considerations.

For more information, see Web Data Connectors in Tableau Server and Testing and Vetting Web Data Connectors in the Tableau Server Help.
